Description: The Biopanda Melamine ELISA kit is a competitive immunoassay to quantitatively detect the presence of melamine in milk and milk powder.

Melamine (MEL) is a nitrogen-based compound that is used by numerous manufacturers to produce a number of products, particularly plastic dishware. MEL has also been used illegally to increase the apparent protein content in food samples. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has found that if MEL and cyanuric acid enter the bloodstream it develops crystals that can obstruct the renal tubes. This can then lead to kidney damage or even kidney failure. The ingestion of melamine may also lead to reproductive damage or eye, skin and respiratory irritation.
