Iron Levels

Ferritin is a protein found in the blood that contains iron. A ferritin test measures how much iron the body stores.

Low Ferritin levels may be caused by a condition called iron deficiency. Iron deficiency can cause anemia. High ferritin levels are usually as a result of inflammation which may be due to liver disease, rheumatoid arthritis, other inflammatory conditions, and overactive thyroid, called hyperthyroidism.
